??????An unusual project, that I’d love to hear any suggestions about?????

Susan -homedecsewing | Posted in General Discussion on

Hi everybody, I have been asked to make some sound absorbing , washable ,blankets,to get the echo out of a huge dog kennel 60 spaces.also I’m thinking of using fabric mounted from the ceiling, like hammocks, possibly in 2 layers with some space between to make a baffle affect This is for muffling the barking bouncing off the walls. also the dogs will not be in contact, as this is all around the outer walls.my first fabric choice is microfiber or fleece, but will have to see if fire rating is an issue??I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. thanks, Susan

would be great if you could recycle styrofoam packaging somehow.

    kennel baffels

I've seen fabric panels used for that reason.   They're hung vertically from the top of each one using a rod across the top.  The sides and bottom are loose - free to flap in the air.  The ones I saw were made of what looked like canvas.

That is one unusual project - how about old blankets?

    sound baffling

Hi, I have always been told that paper egg cartons glued or something on the wall will dampen sound. Hope that helps.

    I Microfiber/fleece think is a great choice

Perhaps if you try a burn test.  I know government standards prefer synethtics like this for kids clothing because it is less flammable and more flame retardant so the flames does not travel as quickly and in some cases if the flame is small enough, it does burn itself out and the burn area will only be one hard glob of plastic.  But if you decide to use this type of fabric, make sure that if you use glue, that the glue is not flammable.  I like your tent idea.  If you make a tent and tack it down to the ground just like camping, that should work wonders and it could be easier to removed for washing.  if the dogs are hairy, it would be a good idea to make this tent outside the kennel so the dogs would rub less against the fabric.  anyways, good luck.  it sounds like a fun project.  I'd like to know how it turns out.  I know I am late with this reply.

I've had several friends that have used the egg holders that come in cases of eggs, the ones that hold 30 eggs each.  They just stapled to the walls and spray painted them.  You could probably get them from a restaurant or bakery that uses a lot of eggs.

I like the egg holder made of styrofoam the best. the styrofoam is water proof too.
