STRIPED FABRIC
I HAVE A WONDERFUL PIECE OF SAND WASHED SILK IN FUSCHIA AND NAVY BLUE HORIZONTAL STRIPES. I PREFER VERTICAL STRIPES SO I WANT TO KNOW IF I CAN JUST CUT IT OUT PERPENDICULAR TO THE STRAIGHT OF GRAIN SINCE THERE IS NO REAL DIFFERENCE IN THE STRETCH IN EITHER DIRECTION.....THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND SUGGESTIONS.....HAPPY SEWING....DEBBIE

I don't think you will notice the difference when making your pattern................ but heres an experiment I used to do with students. Use a very large square of poly cotton and try tearing narrow strips (3cm) across and then down fabric........... spot the difference!

Some of my favorite rtw is from bordered fabric which has been cut on the crossgrain. As long as you cut all the pieces on the same grain, it shouldn't be a problem.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ADVICE ...THE BLOUSE CAME OUT BEAUTIFUL SO I NOW KNOW THAT YOU CAN WORK IN THE OPPOSING GRAIN AS LONG AS THERE IS THE SAME AMOUNT OF STRETCH BOTH WAYS AND EVERYTHING IS CUT IN THE SAME DIRECTION......HAPPY SEWING....DEBBIE
