Sewing for child

sewphaedra | Posted in General Discussion on

I wanted to pass along a tip I got from a friend. She said her mother used to make her a new outfit at Christmas, she got to choose pattern and fabric. She loved that it was the one time her mother passed no judgment on her taste–any pattern, any wild combination of fabrics and trims.
So, I tried it this year with my 7 y.o. She chose a simple Burda dress with raised waist. Then she picked a purple stretch velour for the bodice and sleeves, and a fabulous golden stretch velour with gold glitter sunbursts on it for the skirt. It looks fantastic! I want one! I got it done before Christmas and she’s been wearing it all the time. I see this as a great way to encourage a child (boy or girl) to see the advantages of sewing.

That really is a good way to get them interested,  I let my big girls pick fabric out a lot for their outfits,  they love wearing the clothes I make them.  Your daughters dress sounds so cute.

      Hi, Happy New Year

Did you get your quilt pattern yet?

The quilt making was a tad time consuming but the clipping of the seams just about did me in.  And, my Gingher scissors just barely made it to the end of the project.  Need to get them sharpened now.   BUT----it is a darling quilt.  Have fun with it.

Yes it came in the mail:)  Thank you so much,  I was getting ready to look for the old thread so I could thank you,  sorry it took so long,  it has been crazy here through the holidays.

My oldest daughter the one I was wanting to make it for saw the pattern and now I think it has became a project for us to do together,  she is wanting to go to Joann's today adnnd look at the flannel on sale.  Hopefully with her help the cutting can be a shared effort and go quicker.

        Thanks again:)
