Protective Finish for Cedar

JanuszB1 | Posted in General Discussion on

Hi all. I just joined the club so let me introduce myself. My name is Janusz, I was born in Poland, have Mexican citizenship and now from 1983 I am US permanent resident. Woodworking is my NUMBER ONE hobby (the second is golf).

Wonder if someone could tell me what’s the best finish for cedar. My wife is an avid gardener and needs a work bench to make all kinds of “miracles” with her plants. I am constructing for her an all cedar bench  Our climat is hot and humid (typical in Southern Texas) and the bench will be sitting permanently outdoors. What would be the best protective finish? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Dear Janusz,

There may be someone here at Gatherings who can answer your question, but if you post the question in "Knots" you'll be sure to get an answer.  Taunton sponsors these forums on woodworking, building, cooking, gardening and sewing.  We're sew-ers here.

At the top of the page you should see "Fine Woodworking" with the word "Knots" underneath it.  Click there and you'll be in the middle of a nice bunch of woodworkers.  Please be sure to get your wife to log into "Over the Fence."  That's the gardeners' forum.

    Welcome!
