   I love Project Runway too.  Hopefully it will increase the interest in garment sewing.  I applaud you for offering such a class.  Seems around here all you can find are quilting classes.

   My daughters got me hooked on Project Runway last year. I loved it! I would go to their apartment every Wednesday evening, we would have dinner, and then watch the show for our "girl's night out." Except, some of those evenings, my darling husband would get lonely and come along, too.

   After the season was over, my girls decided that their apartment was too expensive and both moved back home, where I have no cable tv, thus, no Project Runway. I've had to go online to look up what's been made, and I'm anxiously waiting for the show to come out on dvd.

   What would you do with your class to specifically tie it to Project Runway? Would you have particular challenges followed by runway shows? It sounds like lots of fun.

   Sounds like the potential is there for a great class!  I found myself thinking about this today during my non-instructional time (I teach 8th grade math.).  Here are some random thoughts - take a basic pattern but 'tweak it' to give a unique design; demonstrate some technique, i.e. pintucks, piping, pleats, applique, fringe, etc., then have participants incorporate into their garments; find a picture of a current season's runway design and then try to duplicate an interesting design element into their garment;  create an ensemble that has a theme (ala Threads #124 p.59); for a real challenge have everyone bring in a piece of yardage from their stash and have a blind draw, then incorporate the new piece into their ensemble.  How about a fashion show at the end?  I think you could have a lot of fun with this!  I think I could have a lot of fun with this!!! You wouldn't happen to be in Indiana would you?  Hope you keep us posted on how it goes.

   Thanks so much for your ideas -- they are all great. As you can probably tell, I haven't nailed this thing down yet, I just think it would be so much fun to do. I'm thinking it through, looking for an outlet to offer such a class and looking for some other dedicated sewers and fans to join me to play. I love your ideas, especially the trading fabrics one. I am in Colorado Springs, so not even close to Indiana. One thing that has me stymied is how to connect with other gals who enjoy sewing clothing -- there is so much quilting going on, I wonder if anyone is making clothes anymore. Any ideas on how to come up with such a group? Thanks for your thoughts . . .

   I live West of Denver and think it just might be worth the trip down there for something so fun and creative.  C470 has certainly shortened the driving time.  A friend of ours is moving there in November, hmm.  Let me know what you come up with!

   I love your idea...Like someone else had mentioned, there aren't many classes for people interested in making clothes...Maybe you could do a brainstorming session that would serve as a "mini challange"...For example: design a casual silhouette for fall consisting of pants, a jacket, and a shell...It would be a good way for everyone in class to get to know each other and you would get a good idea of what they're hoping to learn...Also tear out pictures of realistic examples just in case they get stuck or need a little inspiration...good luck!
