I Need Buttons

jblong | Posted in General Discussion on

I am in desperate need of buttons to complete an outfit.  I am looking for on-line resources as where I reside we have one fabric store that has buttons of the quality I am looking for and it is an hour drive away.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks, Judith

    Judith,

You might want to do a "Search" of this forum--the issue of where to buy buttons has come up before.

One link is the following:   http://forums.taunton.com/tp-gatherings/messages?msg=2548.4

A possible starting point for your button-hunting:

    http://www.lilyabello.com/sewdir.htm#BUTTONS

A button shop close to me with nice stuff:

    http://www.buttonemporium.com

A couple of sources for very nice glass buttons (I see them at

Sew Expo every year):; [email protected] and http://www.buttonshoppe.com

To add to the list, try http://www.mjtrim.com.  They have a good selection and mail quickly.  If you are in NYC you can visit their store on 6th AVe.

I will not argue with any of the online sources for buttons but I will tell you my favorite place to shop for fabric or notions is Britex Fabrics in San Francisco.  They have a website http://www.britexfabrics.com but they do not sell through there but you will find out what they are like and a phone call to a human being is always welcome in my book.  They are not kidding when it comes to the number of buttons that they have in stock.  The last time I was there I spent almost $200.00 just on buttons alone.  They also do a wonderful swatch service as well.  In fact I was just thinking that I need to use my gift certificate soon. Maybe I will have to give them a call after logging out.  Good luck.

    I like http://www.sawyerbrook.com

Their website displays many, many buttons beautifully.  I often use their Best Match service.  I mail the pattern envelope with a fabric swatch and an explanation of what I'm looking for.  They send me buttons picked by a sewing specialist.  If I don't like their selection I can return them.  But I've always loved what they pick - they take into consideration not only color, but the flavor of the garment and the fabric texture etc.

    Hi,

I purchased buttons from http://www.buttonshoppe.com/. I saw them at the Sewing Expo and I thought they had the most beautiful and unique buttons I have ever seen.

I spent a small fortune that day!

    Regards,

    Dixedreg
