Granny’s flirty skirt

sewfar | Posted in General Discussion on

Sometimes it is the absolutely simplest sewing project that brings joy. I had a just a little over 1 1/2 yards of a big floral quilting cotton. Intended to make little girl aprons and maybe even piece a semi- matching one for their Mom if I was ambitious. But I saw a simple tube skirt on the Internet and thought of me. Formula…secretly measure hips ignoring what they were when you first wore this style, add 3 to 4 inch ease plus seam allowances and a 5 1/2 inch deep finished gathered flounce ( I cut 7 inch deep by 1 1/2 times skirt width and made a 1 inch hem ) Waist is 3/4 or 1 inch elastic. In other words which ever size you have enough of to circle your waist. Another secret measurement.
I made mine just below the knee and I am so pleased that I bought good batik for another and maybe another.
I always loved this style and probably would not have tried on the Granny me except that I wanted that lovely floral fabric used up on something EASY. And so good to have the freedom of a skirt again.

Thanks so much for your comments and encouragement. I am like Susan in the Pincushion thread..."being slowly drug into the 21st century " mostly by my children so I have not mastered digital photography and sending pictures or for that matter how to photograph myself if I had a digital camera other than taking a picture of myself in front of a mirror. And we all KNOW how mirrors lie. HA
