Did you know ?

ctirish | Posted in General Discussion on

This is just something I did not know…..

In surfing the internet this morning I discovered an unusual site. I had never heard of this site. It is named ” http:findownersearch.com ” . It is used to find out who owns what companies. I was looking for a specific maker of girls camisole onesies and the list was not long.

I did find out that Alpine Fleece is owned by Victoria’s Secret. There were other interesting sites but not related to sewing. Today few companies seem to be independent – they are all part of a bigger pie.

Anyway, that is me new business knowledge for today.

It is frightening how true that is.  Monopoly's united to control pricing, quality, and customer service.  No wonder it is so difficult to find the quality products, especially fabrics that we desire.  Mary

This is interesting. Now, can we find out who makes the sewing machines we use? I guess I can look it up.Marcy

      Hi Marcy,

This question was raised in regards to Sergers. Equipment and Supplies: Feb 2007 Who Makes What Serger Where?

There are 10 replies. It was an interesting read.

There should be a way of finding out the answer to a great question.

It seems to me there are worse places you could work besides Vicki's secret...but these days in New England, a fleece bra would be really nice. I had a gorgeous wine colored velvet one once upon a time. It was soft, trimmed in lace, low cut.. I was sad when it wore out.

As for the spending more than you make.... I had the same problem in high school - I worked in the lingerie department. I loved it, I had beautiful "foundations" as they used to call them.  It was the 70's and I saved a mini skirt slip - I still have it - it is a wild print and it is only about 12 inches long..... Oooh.... to have those legs again....lol

Did you see the contest on a magazine for the best bra's - they were really different.  Someday I would like to try making one - it is on the BIG  list.... The BIG list has so many things on it - starting with put the shelf up in the dining area .... up to and including - win Powerball or megamilllions......  it is a very long list.  It is all the things I would like to get completed, my places to see list, things to try list and all sorts of other items.

Yes I did see that contest in that magazine for the bra contest.. And Yes I was actually thinking of doing it last year...so maybe when it comes around again..I was trying to brain storm ideas and themes for it but I wasn't getting anything great. I think that is why I just didn't. Oh a mini skirt slip...sounds wonderful No I actually enjoyed my time there...it was all about the girlie stuff and when your foundations are pretty you feel great!! Sometimes it is all about what you have underneath!!maybe we just might have to put our heads together and have a joint bra adventure for that contest!! Maybe you can attach fleece to one of your bras!! make a slipcover for it so to speak!! ha haSmilin

Good morning,  Yesterday was an unusual day so I thought I would start today off right and send a  note.  I am trying to work up the energy to sew all day. My dgd is sick, a virus,  I hope, so I have the day off. More so because my daughter did not get any sleep last night than dgd being sick. Usually, I get her when she is sick. She has been vomiting this morning, started about 3 am, so mom is tired, has sheets to wash, etc.

I have lots to do, I want to make green lace shamrocks for the mom's in playgroup and I was going to go buy these cute little bags with Shamrock's on them at Christmas Tree shops for the kids... 50 cents each.. but one of yesterdays adventures was my car deciding the speed limit was 10 mph.  It gets a little rough on the interstates at that speed.

I need to make my TBD list for today, I used to do it the night before but by morning it had changed so now I wait until I am up and awake.

          sew happy to sew today...

Here's One for all of the eyeglass wearers.....I used to work for Pearl Vision....Which happens to be one of the most expensive places to buy glasses as they carry many designer frames.....Well, I wasn't too shocked to find that they are owned by Luxottica retail (not sure of my spelling on that one).....a company that owns ALL eyeglass companies that aren't affiliated with Wal-Mart and aren't privately owned....I don't know how precise the information is, but that is what i was told in training to work for the company.....

If I remember correctly, Luxotica is also tied in with at least one of the managed vision plans and now I understand why they're pushing Pearle Vision as one of their providers. Any idea what other names they're marketing frames under?

Sears, LensCrafters, and Pearl Vision are the three big ones. The Sunglass Hut is the one I'm not too sure about, I think they are part of it, too. I know that people liked all of the name brands of Pearl Vision, but in our mall, you would literally walk down the steps to Lens Crafters and pay half the price. So when someone tells you they like the quality of pearl over the others, you can just sit and laugh. Plus, Lens Crafters Makes their lenses in house, so it offers a much quicker turn-over time, you can get you glasses cheaper and faster.... Happy Hunting!
