Hi,

I am finally getting it together to teach teenage girls how to sew. I have a class of 4 girls ready to go. When I was in High School and took sewing we used a book I think by Simplicity that taught basic construction techniques and talked about nitions etc. Does anyone remember this book or have any suggestions for a similar guide for girls 13 and 14? i want to give them a list of supplies including a book but there rae so many I dont know what to choose any suggestions??

The Singer Sewing Essentials (post #32171, reply #1 of 3)

The Singer Sewing Essentials book is similar in content to the book we were required to have for class 45 years ago--it's a good reference tool for years. I've used it for both teen and adult classes.

A huge sewing book can be (post #32171, reply #2 of 3)

A huge sewing book can be daunting. I would show them one at the end of a class as a resource when they really get going on their own. Instead, I would start with a simple pattern and teach them how to follow a pattern. And please don't spend the first full day making them thread and rethread the machines and bobbins. Get them sewing!!! The need to wind a bobbin and rethread a machine will present itself soon enough.
