The Art of Millinery
I have a PDF file of this book by Madame Ben Yusuf, published in 1904. The only thing wrong with it is that page 95 is missing, and there are 2 page 94s instead. My dear man spent time downloading the book page by page for me and made it into a PDF file. I will send a copy of the book file to anyone who wants one; just write me at sephirah5@yahoo.com. If nothing else, it's an interesting historical read, especially the part on "mourning millinery". Can you imagine having to wear a knee length BLACK veil for a year or more? That's what women did back then!

I tried it, as I am quite interested in hats. However, the screen says no such file exists!

Mourning wear (post #34831, reply #2 of 4)
Actually, as a recent widow, I found myself many times wishing I could wear a long black veil; it would disguise my breakdowns and let people know that I wasn't quite ready to re-join socializing as usual yet. Perhaps not having that option speeded up my recovery, but during that first year, a symbol of a "year of mourning" made a whole lot of sense.

You are so right. I'm coming up on two years this summer and realize I was really in a haze for about a year and just thought I was "back to normal". I still have the occasional meltdown but not as often the past few months. It's hard to imagine the pain and void when you've not experienced it. I know i have a whole new attitude towards people who've lost their spouses.
Hope you are doing well, Teaf.
