Do we have any folks out there in harms way with Gustav? I’ve been on another forum and several members are nervously waiting to see where it hits. many have either made plans to leave or have gotten supplies of gas, water, food and all basic necessities……….

There are several from Houston on here. Sewingmulky comes to mind. Donna Kay is west of New Orleans. I'm north of Houston and west of DonnaKay, so inland a bit. I'm sure there are others.
I stopped in Wal-Mart today to get some Blue Bell brand Rocky Road ice cream at my DH's request, and it was wall to wall people. The checker said I was the only person in the store not buying water and batteries.
Rita, the one just after Katrina, came through here 3 years ago. We were without power for a week and had friends here who live on the coast .... and their 7 dachshunds ... for 3 weeks until they were allowed back home. Fortunately, we have kennels, having raised dogs in the past. We lost the roof from one of our rental properties and consequently the ceiling, carpet, etc etc.
We will likely get rain and wind and trees uprooted and limbs on power lines and maybe houses and depending where landfall is, we could get some of the back winds. Hope not. I've been through hurricanes on the Texas Gulf Coast and while in Miami, Fl. Hurricane Carla in 1961 was a monster, and I foolishly rode it out in Victoria, TX.
We are watching the weather but we won't leave here because we are so far inland, but it could cause us some grief.
Thanks for asking. We will likely have refugees here again. I pray for the safety of all those on the coast.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you down there. Being in the upper midwest, we have tornadoes and windstorms but they blow throw in a moments time usually. Altho twisters can do major damage, it's over quickly and I have never had flood waters to deal with.
With Katrina so fresh in the memories of all, it has to be a very scary time.

The good thing is, it is still so fresh on the minds of the population, that they are actually already evacuating, whereas before, even when told to leave, they stayed put. I really expect we won't see so much human suffering simply because people will use better judgement this time.I actually live in an area called tornado alley. A direct hit from a hurricane like Rita this far inland is rare. Didn't make it any less last time, just rare.
My DH is a weather watcher and we have been following the hurricane tracks all summer. I finally had to tell him to stop being so casual about it, I have friends I am worried about down there! Our prayers are for All, wind can be savage at times, even inland. Be safe. Cathy
Just heard from DonnaKaye, they are in the way, but not on the coastline. Still may have to evacuate. She said she will keep me posted. Prayers for All. Cathy
We dodged a bullet here in that Gustav turned north and we got just a little gusty wind and barely any rain. We feel very blessed.
Thank God. I have been near tears worrying all weekend. Have had the TV on wherever I was. Now I can sleep better, knowing at least you are safe. Haven't heard from DonnaKaye yet. She moved to a friend's house. She said she would get in touch when she could. Cathy
I've not heard from her either. I suspect she is without electricity. I believe she was in the path of the eye of the storm. I think she is probably okay, although we'll have to wait for a property damage report.
