Hello everyone,
This is my first time on this chat board. It’s nice to see so many people are still interested in high-end sewing. I learned from my Mom, she learned from hers. It does seems to be a skill/passion that is best acquired at a young age. I would never have had the patience to do all the seam ripping and resewing now that I did through junior high and high school (although I still do my share.)
I was wondering if anyone is planning to go to this year’s sewing expo. I’ve never been and wanted some idea of what to expect, also what the Gala is like (I’ll be modeling my dress in the fashion show).

I went to Novi last year and had a jacket in the fashion show. It was great. The show is good. Lot's of seminars and vendors. The fashion show was a great experience. I had never done anything like that before. They tell you just what you are supposed to do and everyone was very nice and helpful. Have a great time. I'm not in the show this year but I'm going. I have a handbag that is a finalist in the Sew News "Purse-onality" contest. I'll look forward to seeing you and your dress in the fashion show.

I'm modeling my dress in this year's fashion gala too! It's exciting to hear from someone else who will be there. I have modeled garments (my own and other's) in shows before and it's a lot of fun!

I was so excited to be selected as a finalist. I really didn't think my dress was interesting enough--they seem to choose really arty garments.

I'm sure your mom will have a great time. The garments chosen last year ran the gamut from fantasy to very wearable. In fact I think they must have had a very difficult time chosing because the range was so broad. They have changed the classifications for winners this year.
I think what they really look for is the inspiration from the particular article along with workmanship.
Anyway, it was great fun and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
