    Marcy-

I looked it up on the internet-it looks like it is a Spanish sewing magazine.  Hope that helps.

If you find a copy, for help in translating the terms, you can pull out one of your commercial pattern company patterns--almost all of them now have a sheet with all the directional and sewing terms translated from English into Spanish, German, and Italian. It's usually printed on the pattern tissue someplace where they have space for it.Other companies include an English version of the directions and a Spanish version, both with the same illustrations, so that you can match the terms and the technique fairly easily. And, then, if you get stuck, you can ask on this forum, as some of us speak a number of different languages!

It is a Spanish fashion pattern magazine in Spanish with designer patterns inside (something like Burda World of Fashion) that you need to trace and add seam allowances.  Have bought on ebay from stoff-art in Germany and theTwistedOne.com may have some of last years that she picks up in Mexico.  There are a couple plus size ones each year separate from the regular, youth, & children issues.

Patrones.ru has some nicer pictures if you can guess what to click on in Russian!

I've never seen The Burda World of Fashion, but I have heard others talk of it. I wondered why they didn't just say Burda. Now I know. Thanks.Marcy

Have a look at Burda World of Fashion. It is well worth it.

Border's and Barnes & Noble used to carry them, check and see if they still do.

Never heard of Border's, but we do have a Barnes & Noble. Thank you.Marcy

Burda is much easier to find.  http://www.glpnews.com/EN/Crafts/ListCatSewing1.html

has all the magazines this German Language Publications sells subscriptions for. The Contacts link has a phone number. Amazon sells 1-year subscriptions and they probably go through GLP.

Threads has an ad for BWOF trial sub. of 3 or 4 months (Sew News also) the last time I paid any attention.  There is also BWOF Plus that is published twice a year.  They might even sell a single issue when they have it. http://www.burdamode.com/

website has pictures of what is in each new magazine, (sometimes just in German).  That would give you an idea of styles, etc.  They are not cheap unless you compare to the price of one pattern, so if you are willing to trace and add seam allowances you will get well-made patterns with a better-fitting pants than most patterns.  They may have less ease than some others.

Thanks, B. Just curious. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on it, but if I come across one, I will pick it up.Marcy

Like I told B, I was just curious, because I have been hearing a lot about these 2 magazines. Thanks,

The http://www.edipresse website explains that it features patterns for pret a porter fashions (ready to wear) labelled by brand name so that the home sewer can create fashions she sees in department stores for herself.

    1. fabricholic | | #6

That sounds like fun. No wonder I have heard sewists talk of it.Marcy

    Hi Fabricholic!

You can also get single issues of Patrones at this website:

    http://www.marlofashionmagazines.nl/html/patrones_2007.html

You can contact them in English - it's no problem, they will sell you a single issue or you can get a price for a subscription, too.  Subscriptions can include all of the magazines or just the 10 that are for women (I think their prices might be a bit better than Amazon's for this magazine).

Patrones is not in English but if you're an experienced sewist you'll have no problem.  I think I might like it a bit better than Burda World of Fashion because they are a little bit trendier but still have some nice designer basics.  They will have things from European stores like H&M, Mexx and Vero Moda, but they will also have usually at least one pattern that is from an upper end designer like Betsey Johnson, Cacharel, Valentino or someone along those lines.

They publish 15 issues a year - most of the issues are for adult women but they have a couple of children's issues and a couple of tall/large size issues a year.  Included in the 15 they have  3 issues a year that they call Extra issues - where they have a bit of a larger magazine offering more patterns within (these are Feb/June/Oct), 2 issues a year that are called Fiesta which have party wear in them (April/Dec) and a Vacation issue for resort wear (July/Aug - 1 issue).

I've sewn a blouse from their magazine and loved it (pretty sure I posted a picture in the Photo section).  I get the magazine on the newsstand where I live, but I don't live in the US.  And it just started showing up on newsstands here - prior to now I had to order from the Margo's Fashion Magazines too.  Never had a problem with them and shipping was pretty quick (but then, I'm a lot closer to them!).

Have fun with it and if you sew something post a picture!!!

Thanks. Can you tell me how much the Extra Vacation one cost?Marcy

      1. jatman | | #20

Hi FabricHolic!  I started getting these magazines last fall and have every one of them from September to now, so I don't have the July/Aug issue that has resort wear in it.  If I remember correctly, the company I was getting them from was charging approx $20.00USD for the magazines if sold issue by issue.  I know the 'Extra' magazines were a bit more expensive and I believe that cost includes shipping.

Amazon had them for about $36 each or $400something a year.  I can't find a site where I can see what's inside.  For that kind of money for one...I'd sure want a peek at what I'd be getting!  Anyone know where I can see some pages?

          1. jatman | | #22

            Hi Ralphetta!

Try http://www.patrones.ru/ and click on the 1-2-3 underneath the big picture.  Those are the patterns that are inside the magazine.  Please try Marlo's Fashion Magazines before Amazon - their prices are definitely better.

            Thanks, I'll try that.
