Hello Lurkers

Tangent | Posted in Gather For A Chat on

Hi everyone!

I’d like to say Hi to all the Lurkers out there, and hope that sometime they’ll choose to participate or at least say Hi.  If you read the ‘New Members’ postings you’ll know that there are all sorts of people here, from the newest beginners to the most expert, so don’t be shy!

My own participation is very occasional, I’ll check lots of postings for a few weeks and maybe throw in a comment or two, then be ‘away’ for months. I have a full-time job and lots of other projects on the go, so my sewing time is limited.  Most of the sewing I do is mending, altering, or making a case or cover for something.  Sometimes I even made a garment!  ðŸ™‚

I enjoy reading about projects and tips, and the stories that go with them.  It’s interesting to learn what sort of sewing is being done and how long they’ve been sewing, the different parts of the world the members are from, and especially how friendly and helpful they are.  I have no friends who sew that I can ‘talk sewing’ with, and this website is a great place for that!

    Hello,

I guess you could say I am an in and out lurker. When I first joined the board I asked a few questions and received the help I needed. Everone here was great in providing me with solutions. I have also had the occasion to offer some limited advice.  But I did not sew as much then and I do now, but sometimes just searching the board I can find the answer I need. I do so enjoy reading everyones comments on the subjects I choose to read. I have my favorites I follow up on their comments. My plan is to stay active on this board. I am not able to read everyday, but I do block out time frame to read this board. I'm sorry this is rambling, but I wanted to get it all out,

    Summer

      Hi Summer,

I also read more than I comment,  and sometimes learn unexpected things, like the history of the 'Bog Coat'.

Often my day doesn't go as planned, so maybe I'll have time to play on the computer, or maybe not, so setting a timeframe to check the postings doen't work for me.  It's great to know it's there and I can check on it whenever!

A good message, Tangent!  Like most lurkers, I was hesitant to join an online chat, but this forum is very safe and does not seem to attract spammers or cookies that compromise our computer safety.  This forum is the first and only online community for me, and I've enjoyed participating after a couple of years of lurking.

There's always something interesting to learn, and it's fun to find people interested in some of the obscure things I've learned in decades of sewing; I, too, encourage lurkers to join up!

I completely agree!   This isn't the sort of forum that attracts "lowlife",  so cautious and shy posters are more likely to get bolder and join in.... and be welcomed.
