Has anyone tried………??????

Crazy K | Posted in Gather For A Chat on

I bought a Bon-Fit pant patterns a while back and haven’t had the time (or energy!) to fiddle with it yet.  Has anyone else used them?  Did you have good luck with it?

I hope to get the box out again and try to figure out what measurements have to be taken, etc.  I have a sewing buddy that will help me.  She’s recuperating from surgery at the moment so I should have a captive audience!! ha

I would just like feedback or whatever advice anyone has to share……..

TIA, Kay

    Hiya!

My DH got me the three BonFit sets for a birthday through a book club about ten years ago, and I tried to make them work, goodness knows. They slithered all over the place when cutting, and I could never really get the measurements.

They were such a challenge to fiddle with by myself that I gave up on them and donated them to a high school that was just developing a home ec course (when other schools were closing theirs - so brave!). I got a nice note from one of the teachers a year later - the classes were loving the templates, and sharing them easily. I was glad that they could be used by 30 sewers at once, because even with instruction booklets and videos, I could not make head or tail of them! Their sprightly young minds had no trouble.

For me, drafting patterns from scratch is hardest, twiddling BonFit's settings is probably second, but making a muslin from lining or scrap fabric from a pattern and adjusting from there was and still is easiest for me.

I wish you well, and suggest that you call BonFit or your local sales rep for tips and tricks.

    :) Mary

Oh My Goodness!!!  And here I thought it was just me!!!!!!!!  I must admit I haven't worked with them much but just looking at them gave me the heebee jeebees!  I tried to watch the video but I am dreadfully hard of hearing (with two hearing aids even!) and TV needs closed captioning for me to catch it all.  I don't remember but I don't think this video had CC with it.  Anyway.........I do remember it being so interesting that I had a hard time staying awake!!!!!!!!  I really need to get that out again and have another go at it.  Maybe will have better luck this time.  I just figured if I could get the thing set, I would make myself a pattern using the same pattern-making stuff that I use for copying off the Kwik Sew in different sizes.  That might be easier if I just have to hold it in place long enough to trace around it.  My biggest problem is going to be the measuring.  I don't have a sewing buddy.  Maybe I can corral DH long enough to help!!  I have a Kwik Sew pattern  that is close but I always have to tweak just a tad because I'm so short from crotch to waist.  I was hoping the bonfit would eliminate some of that.............

Oh My..............such problems............with all the opportunities, etc.  I have nothing to whine about!!

I used the pant patterner and the first pair came out a little looser than I liked but it was fairly easy to adjust. Now I have a basic that really fits me quite well. I use it if I purchase a new pattern by overlaying the basic on to the new pattern. I know then what to expect out of the new design or I can alter the pattern from the start. It was a bit daunting to use the first time. Just follow it step by step.

Thanks!  That gives me more courage to try it.  I guess I had similar thoughts.......that if I could get a good fit from that, I could then use it for other patterns/styles, etc.

      Thanks again!!!

      Kay
