How do I know how to fit shoulder pads correctly into various kinds of garments? T-Shirts, jackets shirts etc. I am not sure of the positioning and type of shoulder pads to use.

Hillary, the type of pad to use and how to position is determined by the cut of the sleeve - regular set-in, raglan, drop shoulder, etc. If using a pattern, consult the notions area on the reverse of envelope under the yardage requirements. You can also determine this in ready made clothes by matching to a similar pattern in pattern book and consulting the notions. The easiest way to find out can be to ask someone who sews a lot to show you item by item, or ask someone knowledgable at your fabric store. Also, consult a good basic sewing book you have or ask at library for one. Bill
