fitting top with darts

I have a top pattern with darts at the bust area. The dart placement does not fit. The darts are too high. I tried to lengthen them and shorten them but nothing worked. They still do not fit. They need to be moved. How do I do that? I have sewed for years but have always stayed away from things with darts because of the problems I have had with fitting them. Can any one tell me how to go about moveing the darts? They need to be moved down . Thanks in advance.

Try drawing a box from the side seams that totaly includes the dart. Then cut the box out and move it down and tape. Redraw the side seams. I hope this makes sense. Wish I could draw with text.

*Thanks for the info. I will try that. I have moved on to another project at the moment. When I make that pattern again I will try that. I am currently making another blouse with darts and they fit. The patterns are from the some company so who knows why one fits and another doesn't. Thanks again.
