adding side elastic on pants

jlagrone | Posted in Fitting on

Hi, I would like to add side elastic to a pants pattern that has a faced waistband, no pleats. Can anyone tell me a source for directions?

Its not hard to do . All I do is get two pieces of elastic slightlynarrower than the waist band and pin them to the waistband above where the back darts are, stitch the elastic from the fold line to the waist seam on the lower half of the band only then stretch the elastic across to the front and repeat say 3" from the side seam  then complete the waist band in the usual way . I usually make the elastic about 1" shorter than the distance between the front and back attachment points but this is an individual choice .I then finish the waist band by stitching in the ditch after having comleted the band around the front opening and fly area.
