Seam finishes for silks-bird and clamp

missdee | Posted in Feedback on Threads on

Hey all,

I live in Liverpool, U.K…..And love the help and reading Threads!!

BUT i see there`s a really handy tool to hold the seams while you trim..a Bird and Clamp..in the Seam finishes for silks article.  Can you, please, post any webshops that sell these so i can purchase one.  They are so useful and i have not seen any for purchase in England.

Thanks in advance!

    Here's site I found:'

If you google "sewing bird" you'll come up with the sort of thing you're looking for.

My experience with google is that more specific you can be, the more likely you are to get the information you want. It's a much more sophisticated search engine nowadays than those we used to use.

I liked the look of that little tool too, but I see it's available from the USA and I'm also in the UK. I don't know what the shipping costs would be like - but on a practical note I suppose one could rig up a bulldog clip to do the same job. Not nearly so pretty but it would be almost as effective.

I did some more looking around and here it the modern version:http://sewingworkshop.com/index.php/action/item/id/3/prevaction/category/previd/3/prevstart/0/Another U.S. company, but now you know what you are looking for. BTW--I just use a small spring-loaded jaw-type clamp used for woodworking now, since most of the time, I'm using it for holding a quilt while I sew down the binding and these little clamps aren't really strong enough.

Sometimes I go to post my ideas but I often think everyone else will have thought of them already! Thanks for NOT having thought of this one!

          Hi Moira,

thanks again for the help on sourcing the bird!!  It seems USA are lucky when it comes to the handcrafting market...UK still behind in the variety of goods you can buy.

          Jacqui.

            Hi Jaqui
Thanks for the website - I went ahead and ordered one of these just because I fancied having one! I hadn't really though about using it but within a day or so, I was pinning strips to make skirt hanging loops and realised a third hand was exactly what I needed, so my new gadget is already in use. Delivery was within two days of ordering.

I have this one and it is very helpful when needed.  The site is the Clotilde sewing notions catalog ... a very reliable source.
