Festive Season Raffle/Competition
Why oh why do they ask us to enter a competition and then demand that we live in either the US or Canada? I have diligently completed the application form for the past week for their raffle, sometimes but mostly not always succeeding in dodging filling the name of the state that I live in!! I don’t live in a state!!! I actually live in the part of the world that Mr Bush was not aware of before he was elected to his present position, ie outside the US of A.
I do however continue to have a full subscription to the mag.
I have continued with filling in the application form daily as I am stubborn but I know I haven’t a chance of winning anything as I fill in the form saying I live in “Dublin 14 Ireland” Alabama (the first one on the list) Obviously wrong.
Previously I complained about the offer of free post on mail orders. At that time one only found out after the order was made that the postage (sorry mail!) cost more than the order. Since then, the powers that be, have had the cop on to add to their sales pitch that their offers only apply in the U S of A only. Why not add this to their “Holiday Raffle”?

Hi Stillsewing! That is pretty annoying isn't it? I'd like to think in the global world that we live in that most of these boundaries would be eliminated. But, in all practicality - laws and taxes differ greatly around the world and postage from the US to the EU is pretty pricey. I just wish that when they run a special they would discount the postage for the rest of the world, too.
All that being said - I just moved back to the US and am taking advantage of all of the free shipping and contests that I can! I consider it a consolation prize for not having access to the wonderful magazine stands that have every sewing/pattern magazine available in every language imaginable. I really miss that!

I bet you came back to the states with lots of new skills after living in Gothenburg. Are you in a warmer climate now?

Hi Tatsy! Warmer climate? Can you hear me laughing from there? I live in Michigan now. We got over 10 inches of snow on Friday and more has been forecasted although I have not looked at the weather yet this morning! Nope! No warmer climate for me, unfortunately!
My best new skill is hat making. I took a hat making course while I was in Sweden. It was so cool! A bit of a struggle for me as I didn't have full command of the language but apparently I learn faster by watching/doing than hearing about it anyway! There was a school that offered all sorts of classes like that - including photography, music courses, silver smithing, upholstery, knitting, etc., etc. I wish there were an 'arts' school close to me now. However, I am lucky enough to live in the same city as Haberman Fabrics and have signed up for a couple of their classes next year. I'm really looking forward to that!

Michigan? Ah well, not everybody craves heat. We used to live in Minnesota but now live in the Central Valley in California. We still have white Christmases, but it's fog.
I envy you being in a place where you can take such neat classes. My mom took millinery training and it certainly gave her sewing a different look than most others. She thought nothing of twisting up a flower to go on our dresses or adding trim that most people would leave off. There are surely classes in the LA area but that's a long drive and probably an overnight stay, so I've switched to taking jewelry classes. I love peyote stitch. Enjoy your classes at Haberman's.
Michigan wouldn't have been my first choice but you don't always get your first (or second or fifteenth!) choice.
I really did enjoy the hat class and am looking forward to taking classes that I can find around here.

Thanks for understanding what I meant. Too often you enter these competitions in good faith --- and when you get to the end of the application form you get not in ??????? . After this episode I will not enter any other comps set up on the web site or purchase their offereings. Geting the magasine has been so easy you think that the rest would follow through. It is great to hear about your time in Sweden, it seems to me that people in contintental Europe are still into arts and crafts, and treasure old items of handwork. Weather wise, is seems that you jumped from the frying pan into the fire, obviously in reverse. Minus 6!!!! Over here in Dublin at 18.00 hours it is plus 6 celcius and unlikely to get any colder tonight. I don't think I could face that type of cold --- or the extreme heat in the USA. How do you manage? do you always travel by car? or can you walk anywhere without freezing up?. Anyway keep warm and have a lovely Christmas.
Yep, I love it when you take the time to fill in all of the blanks and don't find out until you hit enter that you are not eligible to participate. Pretty annoying!
Europe was wonderful. I loved every minute of it. And there really is more of an emphasis on hand crafted items than there is here.
Believe it or not, the winters here are more severe than where I was in Sweden. However, the summers are much nicer! So, it's a toss up! Unfortunately everything here is so spread out and public transportation is not great so I have to drive everywhere. I didn't even have a car in Sweden!
I've been to Dublin! I loved it!
