I recently purchased the abstracts shapes from the threads site, I adore them.I changed the colors to something more monochromatic (blues and one purple).
my next will be dragon flies to place all along one sleeve of a sheer blouse.
thanks for making sophisticated designs, I hate the kitschy kitty flower stuff.

I'm inspired by Threads to try the machine embroidery patterns, but I need to buy an embroidery machine first. Can you tell me what specifications I should look for, so I am sure the machine I purchase will do your designs?
I'll be looking for a stand-alone machine as I already own two great sewing machines and two sergers, and this purchase will be hard enough to explain to my husband.

What a great idea--and with the holidays coming up, you can perhaps justify this as a gift to yourself.
All motifs in the Threads Embroidery Collection are designed specifically to fit inside a 4" x 4" hoop, which is a pretty standard size for basic embroidery machines. Newer models (especially the big, expensive combination sewing/embroidery machines) often have larger hoops as well, but you won't need them for any of our designs--or even for loads of other commercially-available designs.
Our designs are available as downloads only, so you'll need a computer to download them onto a diskette, and/or a converter box to put them onto the card that many machines read. (Someone help here, please! I have not had to use a converter box so I don't know if you can download straight from the internet onto a memory card using the box, or if you must do the diskette as an intermediate step). Although I can't provide details about this, you dealer should be able to help you out.
There are a few embroidery-only machines on the market that are quite affordable (Brother, Bernina, and Simplicity all offer them), and do a fine job. I think they're a great way to break into machine embroidery without breaking the bank. If you find yourself addicted and want larger hoops or more complex editing/customizing/digitizing functions, you can upgrade later.
