hello Carol ,I have been wanting to make some new tops which use some of the design features of the fories an d fifties which are so much NOW. I have altered a T shirt pattern so that it fits really well and would love to use this as my basic pattern . My problem is that I am not sure how to alter the pattern to get the ruching at the center neck with the sweetheart neckline or assymetric necklines combined with ruching etc. I am wondering if Threads could do an article on how to alter a basic pattern to get these effects . Another idea is an article on combining layers around the neckline , We have a profusion of net like stretch fabrics and it would be great to have something on how to combine shapes of the layers which are often necessary when wearing these fabrics .

Thanks for the ideas. In the upcoming issue, there's an article about adding three different collars to a basic v-neck top. Not exactly the type of treatment you're looking for, but take a look anyway. Some of the information might be helpful in what you're doing. Adapting a pattern to include a ruched section is a good suggestion for an article; it's not that hard, but if you haven't done it, you might not feel confident creating the weird-shaped pattern pieces that are required!

Another suggestion is an article on adding fullness into and then removing it with pintucks ,shirring or ruching on a pattern piece such as a sleeve or a blouse front/back.. Again, probably not very hard but something which leaves me feeling a little uncertain and confused , especially when I want to put it into the mid section of a garment piece and dont want to change the measurements above ie over the bust with verticle tucks at the waist for instance. These treatments are coming back into fashion with the advent of the BOho look and I havent ever used them much before.
Actually a theme of how to alter the basic blocks in order to achieve the latest fashion looks would be really good .
