boning (post #34161)

help, have made my own bodice pattern, the princess seams are quite curved. How far do I run the boning? do I need to go all the way with spiral? or do I just go till it starts to curve with the plastic?

I think the boning should go the length of the piece or the fitting would not be smooth and you might see a step where the boning ends.

I think boning hurts and it cuts.  I read somewhere that people prefer to use a kind of hemp cord for boning.  it does the trick and it doesn't hurt.

Boning doesn't hurt! Only a badly made or badly fitted dress might. A correctly boned dress is very comfortable.

hemp cord for boning (post #34161, reply #3 of 3)

I like the idea about using hemp cord for boning.  I think its really cool and the hemp cord has more purposes than the boning.  so it is more economical way to go.  Anyways, it would be more affordable and you would get a lot more lengths to try on.  I read this idea on a site selling linen, and this lady was making rennisance clothing for reenactments!
