altering a blouse and a sewing form
also searching my books to see if there is something on making the an area across my bust just a bit wider this would have to be alteration. the button that sits on the point of the bust gaps the one above and below is ok
Also have you thought of discussing a sewing form, i am finding it so difficult to fit my self i am thinking of lay buying one very soon.
which are the best types to buy. it is also hard to find an email address in the magazine one i sent today just in side the cover re letters came back.

I have 2 dress forms for customers but never use them when I make for myself.
Why would I, when i can drape fabric on myself or try garments on and then look in a mirror!

this is what i hate staring at my self in the mirror trying to see the back of a blouse, getting dart on the correct angle,
may be i am expecting to much from a dress form, i can see my self fitting across the bust better and also decideding if a style suits me re doing a muslin.
any one else out there have a dress form and us it often.

A dress form will not avoid self-fitting unless you have a form made just for yourself. Dress forms usually do not have enough adjustments to duplicate your exact shape. For instance there is not an adjustment for bust height or shape, a very important measurement and one most critical to dart fitting.
I have sewn for more than sixty years and find that a while a dress form is great for modelling clothes and a limited use for draping, it is of not a necessity for fit. A dress form may help you with a back dart but in the long run a muslin and a sewing pal (who is at least knowledgeable about sewing as you are) is the best for tricky fittings.

I am sure everybody has their own unique technique to use with a dressform. There are different types of dress forms. Some have a longer back waist adjustment and variation on the bust. you can compare your own measurements to the dress forms to see the difference. Some people are very medium and would fit a dress form without much adjustments required. A young junior teen dress work would be slightly different from a small women. I know that the difference is the back waist length for me. This venture requires more investigation and I am sure you will have a lot of luck.

It appears that I am denied access to my above message to edit it. What I am trying to say is that a dress form is not necessarily going to give you a good fit unless it is expressly tailor-made to your actual dimensions.
