Red wool tweed

alotofstitches | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I have a customer looking for red wool tweed.  I can’t find any anywhere.  could some of you send me some ideas of where to look?  She wants a good quality and price is not a factor.

I can suggest Linton - they have fabulous tweeds - but don't know if she's willing to order from Britain. If so, you can google Harris tweed also.

I bought my hand loomed Harris Tweed while visiting Glasgow at Mandor's fabric store, they had all different colours and they may be able to help you locate some red tweed (their staff are very helpful).  Their web site is http://www.mandors.co.uk. Remind your customer that Harris Tweed is very narrow because of the home looms used so make sure you buy extra yardage for possible piecing. I am going to make a prince style jacket out of mine (someday) so the smaller pieces will fit onto the narrow fabric.  Good luck and be prepared for the price shock.

Have you looked at Vogue Fabrics' site?

Here's what I sound today under "Wool Fabrics":

    http://www.voguefabricsstore.com/store/home.php?cat=121

The page takes a while to load, but then you can click on each 'grouping' to get to the specific fabrics. You can also call them and request swatches - not sure of the cost for those...Happy hunting! Kharmin

Metric is used for measuring in Europe (and that includes England) so remember that instead of one yard (36 inches) you have to order one meter (39 inches). The widths are also metric. This information appears on most patterns nowadays.

Canada is also on the metric system.
