linels, laces, fabrics and sewing notion
Hi I’m new to this site. I
m not really a sewer although my mother taught tailoring at the University of Alabama. She sewed, crocheted, tatted, knitted, etc.
She also collected. Fabrics and crochet pieces, buttons, fine laces, hoursehold linens, etc — everything. I’m not kidding, she had a bedroom full of boxes. Unfortunately, she died two years ago. I first thought I would get inspired to use some of the collection but it’s just not my bag.
Does anything have any suggestions where I might be able to sell all this stuff. I called a few antique stores in Nashville, Tn, where I love but they wanted to go through all the boxes and select what they wanted. I want to sell it all in big lots such as all the fabric, all the laces, all the sewing notions, etc.
I would appreciate any help.

If you don't so much need the money, it would be a kind benelovence to give it to a college theater department. They would love to have it and it would most certainly be used. Gail
let the eantique stores go through them at your convenience, and you know they'll go to a good home :-)

theaters could use specialty stuff like this too, though they'll want a low price.
sad to say, but these dear items don't have a huge market. there are people who are interested, but you'll have to look for them or put up with persnickety ebay-ers.
My mother used to scout estate sales looking for those things to use for authentic clothing for antique dolls. Old lace trimmed pillowslips, collars, etc. are precious items for doll collectors.
Not a sewer! You're like a fish out of water hanging out on this site!:) But we're glad your here! My mother died 3 years ago and collected fabrics. I have used some of her fabrics. The greatest thing we did is take fabrics of patriotic colors or schemes and cut fabric, (the quilt was a star pattern) sent to family and friends in a sandwich bag with instructions on how to put a square together. They sent them back after sewing the squares, then I embroidered with my machine the name of each person that made the square, assembled the quilt and bound it with fabric that I had bought, blue with white anchors (it's the only fabric besides the backing that wasn't my mom's) and gave it to my brother for his retirement from the Navy. It was an awesome project. There were 52 squares in the quilt. It was nervewracking because I didn't know if we would get them all in time for his retirement ceremony. I actually was doing the finishing touches on the way to MS (from KY). We couldn't have don't anything he loved more. He loves quilts anyway, and this one was all (almost) my mom's fabrics, patriotic, and has the name of family and friends on each square. he loved it.
Anyway to your question. First thought I had is let the stores pick and choose, then donate to a University, or University extention office for teaching sewing. Also, I am thinking I would be interested. I live in eastern KY, and I will be in Gatlinburg TN for Christmas. If I could meet you somewhere on the way, if you can take pics, give me an idea of what's there, price etc. I am interested for myself plus the UK extension office for 4-H projects etc. You can send pics or email me directly.

There's a Mancuso quilt show in Manchester, NH. One of the vendors sells old buttons and she has quite a demand. So if the stash includes old Bakelite buttons, mother of pearl buttons, there may be a buyer out there.
