leather

kate lamar | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I have the remnants of a leather hide that I would like to use to make a purse (I used the leather to upholster a chair).  However, I do not know if leather has a grain that you must follow, as is true with woven fabrics or if I can just lay out the pattern pieces willy nilly as there is no “selvage” to line up and I will need to utilize all the leather.  Any help is appriciated.

Leather doesn't have a grain.  I would simly lay it out whichever way works for the pattern.  And use a leather needle.

Thanks, Sue.  I didn't think it did, but just wanted to be sure.
