Jersey strips for binding

seLvege | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I was lucky enough to find some rolls of what I presume to be jersey that is 1.5″ wide. It is great in place of bias binding for certain garments. I have not been able to find a source to buy more…maybe because I don’t really know what it’s actually called. Does anyone get what I mean? Where can I find more of this item?

Where did you find the 1.5" jersey binding?  Second hand sale?

You might consider being in touch with Wright.  The company is known for offering all manner of tapes, bindings, trims, notions + + + +.  URL follows.  Scroll to page end for the e-mail link.

Thanks for the suggestion, Palady. I found a number of these rolls at a thrift store. Obviously SOMEBODY makes them. Again, I don't really know what to call the stuff...it's not bias binding...just strips of fine cotton or poly knit on a large roll. It is so nice to work with. All I find on the internet is cotton or satin bias binding. Will definitely take your suggestion and try Wright's.

It the rolls may be some sewing industry.  With the additional info as to how you came by the strips, I'd figure "someone" who worked in a sewing factory was able to get the rolls & took them for a now unknown reason.   Maybe sewing blankets?  When most of the industry moved out of the USA, it figures a significant amount of inventory was to be had.  The original "owner," or family member may have downsized the all to the second hand sale store.

I did email Wright's and am awaiting a reply. You are probably right about them being from someone's stash from a factory or somethin. I would really like to find some place to get more. I know I can cut my own but...just easier if they are already cut. Thanks for your help.

I used to work at Janzens Fabric Outlet in Aloha Oregon. There was also
one in Portland, Oregon Many times large rolls of edgeings, elastics, pipings, etc. came through the store. I would contact Janzens, if they
    still exist.

Thanks for the suggestion, sewingbudi. I will try Janzen's. I know I can cut my own but if it is available precut...so much more time to do actual sewing!
