Camel Hair Fabric

bobpowers | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

My wife has been attempting to buy a camel hair coat for a long time to replace her beloved but worn out Pendleton.  She is quite small, and none of the styles fit her.  I finally convinced her to have a tailor make one for her.  She and the tailor agreed to this, but the tailor wants her to find the fabric.  Lo, and behold!  In our college town of 30,000 people, nobody seems to have camel hair fabric.

Does anybody know of a source for this exotic material in or near Ithaca, NY?

Regards,

Bob

    Bob-

I don't know of fabric stores in your area, but I know Banksville Fabrics in Norwalk, CT has beautiful camel hair that I've been coveting. The owner of Banksville buys designer ends, so the selection is wonderful (and what great prices). This time last year they even had what they called "baby camel hair," which was so soft and offered in quite a few gorgeous colors.

Banksville has a mail-order service (203-846-1333). Just call, ask them to send you some swatches, then you can order whatever yardage you need over the phone.

    Best,

I bought camel hair at Poli's in 40th Street, Manhattan last January. I believe they have a mail order service. They advertise in Threads, or get back to me if you need full details.

    Cheers,

    Ghillie (in the UK now)

Haberman Fabtrics http://www.habermanfabrics.com has camel hair in full bolts and designer garment lengths.  They have a swatch service with complete info for requesting at their website.
