Breaking in new denim

JudyWilliment | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I’ve just made myself an A-line skirt in denim which is very stiff.  The skirt fits perfectly, but stands out all on it’s own due to the stiffness.  I know Threads had a question answered about this, and wondered if someone could give me the details.  It was in issue 77, June/July 1998, under “Questions” on page 12 (Thank goodness for the online index!).  I would really appreciate any other suggestions on softening the denim.   So far I’ve washed it three times in a row, but would like something a little quicker than doing it again and again and again……

Judy, I've used Fast Fade by rit to marry a bunch of denims I put together to make a Java jacket (design/pattern by Diane Ericson).  It was wonderful.  http://brands.bestfoods.com/rit/about.asp

Thanks for that info - I'll see if I can track it down.
