I am making a denim tote bag. For the straps, I usually sew wrong sides together, trim seams, turn right-side out, press and top stitch, which is very bulky.
I took apart a store-bought tote bag of mine, also denim. The mfg., the best way to describe it , took 2 peices of bias tape and with wrong sides together, top stitched. It is so clean…..
Does anyone know how the mfg. made the bias tape straps PERFECT in width (1-1/4″), including the turned under edges (1/4″). My strap edges are very uneven.

to get perfect bias strips:
use light spray starch or sizing
cut long strips (not continuous bias)
use a bias tape folder that folds the strip as your iron it.
You'll be amazed at how it works and I don't own stock in the company

I recently did a similar thing for a tie-end, and sort of cheated by using Steam-a-Seam to fuse the pieces together before stitching. That way, you can make sure everything is lined up just the way you want it, press it into position, and then when you sew, it won't slip out of place. And for a strap, the minimal added stiffness won't matter at all.
