   I would call them directly. They used to have all of their furs available by the yard also.

   I get Fabulous Furs catalog and they do sell it by the yard but it's not cheap. I bought some "mink" at a store in downtown Atlanta and when I got it home I noticed it was wonky.  So watch out!  After spending the money I started seeing fake fur in a lot of stores.  I should have done that and saved my time and energy.  Just my humble opinion. Having said alll that, several years ago I knew a girl who bought fur from FF and made herself a full length coat.  It was gorgeous and it only took her a couple of days....couldn't tell if from the real thing.  She must have been on speed (not really) because I'd still be working on the darned thing!!lol

   good to know about 'wonky' fabric.

   i will go find the stores in surrey hills sydney and see what i can find before looking online, i prefer to see and feel before i buy.

   Hi,  It didn't run with a straight of grain.  I couldn't see it at the store because it was on top of other rolls of stuff but when I got it home and laid it out I saw it.  I lined up the salvage edges on my D. R. table, well, one edge, table's only 42"wide, this is wider, like 60".  It had a diagonal run to it.  On this piece the pelt line runs vertically so you can't miss it! Since the backing is a heavy type of knit it may work for a vest but surely not for a full length coat like my friend made 15 years ago. It killed me to find vests already made for a whole lot less. I have to say however, that what I bought, except for the "wonky" part is of better quality than what I saw at Joanne's.  This is one of those little shops with millions of yards of fabric.  He may buy and sell seconds. Who would know and he ain't tellin' anyway.  Guess you pay your money and you take your chances.  Seems like everyone's a crook these days.  I could say that you get what you pay for but in this case that doesn't apply. I think what I bought came to around $50 and I'll check to see how much I bought, brb, OK, I just went upstairs and checked it.  Looks like 2 yards.  When I fold it in half lengthwise it looks OK but there's about 5/6" on the top layer extended over the bottom layer and on the other side there's the same amount on the bottom layer short of the top layer.  Does that make sense to you?  Because of that I just lay it across the bottom of my 60" queen sized bed and pretend I'm Cher, ha, ha. Go to http://www.fabulousfurs.com and get their catalogue, the always reduce  a lot of their coats and jackets in the summer. Caveat emptor (let the buyer beware)!!  Glad to help.  Let me know how you do.

   Threads magazine, a couple of issues ago, as part of their feature article listed some stores (on-line) that sell faux fur. There was one gorgeous piece of faux fur in that article ( I can't remember right now what it was but I think it was on a collar and cuff), and the site was referenced too. So try to find that edition of the magazine, and Fabulous Furs does have some wonderful pieces and still sells it by the yard, but it comes out to cost nearly as much as purchasing a coat from the store. At one time, I'd heard that FF makes/made coats for some of the soaps' actresses!! And, on TV one, if this is true, cannot tell their fur coats from the real deal.

   Oh, the Hancocks' in my area (OH) carries a really nice imitation mink. I was in one of the stores on Mon night and they were out for the season. I think their faux mink was about $39.99/yd.

   I bought faux sable from FF and made a long jacket.  It looks fabulous, can't tell from the real thing.  BUT  The pattern, from FF, said a beginner could make it.  I consider myself expert and I had real trouble sewing the thing and thought a beginner would be in tears trying to sew a bulky garment, with welt pockets no less, with 1/4 " seams.  I vowed at the time never to tackle anything like this again but the memory of the pain fades with time and I do look fab in the jacket. *G*
