Is there a proper way to attach purchased trim to a ready made dress? Trim has sequins and some beads and backing is a woven (cotton?). Thanks in advance for your help!

San: I think you will be happiest with the results from hand sewing. All of the sequins and beads will mean a lot of broken machine needles and it will be hard to get it to lay perfectly flat. Use a very fine needle and small stiches.

Is there a specific method or technique to hand-stitching trim...straight across, zig zag...? san
San: Do you know how to do a blind hemstitch? It is the stitch you would use to hem a skirt, etc. Sometimes it is called an overstitch. I would use a small needle, a length of thread with only one end knotted, and very small stitches. Pin your trim about every six inches and be prepared to move the pins as you stitch, as the fabric will shift as you stitch.
The object is to do a stitch that is invisible, so you would start inside the garment. Come up throught the garment and the very edge of the trim. Go over the edge of the garment, under, and up through the garment again. Keep your stitches close together and a little bit loose.
If the trim has any width to it you might need to do the bottom edge too.
I hope you can understand these directions! Sometimes my directions are as clear as mud :)

mimi, didn't see ANY mud....just crystal clear directions!! Thank you! My straps are done, now I started a wider trim going around the top edge. I started at the back zipper and tucked the edge under as best I could...taking a couple of sequins off. I'll finish tomorrow night hopefully. thanks again, san
