Walking foot attachment vs Pfaff dual…

I am considering buying my first electronic machine (have lots of experience with garment sewing, but on a clunky old mechanical machine that makes me pull out my hair), and I’d like people’s opinions on whether or not the Pfaff dual feed is THAT great of an advantage over just using a walking foot attachment on any other electronic machine. Will a walking foot attachment do just as good a job at feeding fabric evenly as the Pfaff dual feed? I want my new machine to be able to handle the whole gamut of garment fabrics–from super fine lingerie fabric to stretch velvet to bulky Berber fleece. I’d love to hear from anyone who has actually used both systems.

Sharon, I adore my Pfaff 1473CD, which is an older computerized model. I can't really remember what it was like to sew with my old machine, but I know that feeding evenly was more of a problem (although I didn't have a walking foot for that machine). The dual-feed feature is wonderful....

*I have three Pfaff's all with dual-feed. The dual-feed on my first Pfaff [a new 7550] is THE reason that I bought the second two Pfaffs also with dual-feeds [a used 1473CD and a used 1222]. I love them all.I sew a lot of leather garments and having the dual-feed is a must. I have tried the walking foot attachment in the past with a different machine. I did not like the noisiness of it. And it broke about the second time I used it, a screw feel out of it which I never did find and never got the foot fixed again. My advise is to use the walking foot attachment ONLY if you have to because you DIDN'T buy a sewing machine with the dual-feed built in. But if you have the choice of buying a new sewing machine definitely go for the one with the dual-feed system. It is worth it, plus you will have all the other great bonuses that come on a Pfaff. I have NO affiliation with Pfaff, just a contented sewer.Paula

*I will never buy another machine without the dual feed. Period.By the way, you can insert zippers with the dual feed on a pfaff, not with a walking foot....at least to my knowledge. Can you tell I'm a great pfaff pfan?

I'm looking at a Designer I.  I know people that have returned Pfaff's in exchange for this machine.  I'm also interested in the Dual-Feed and can't seem to balance out the many pluses of the Designer I versus this one-feature which Pfaff has over Viking. In addition to which Viking now owns Pfaff, is upgradeable, has larger embroidery area on screen etc.
