My mom has a little ruler-like device with two long prongs that she used to make flawless bound buttonholes. Does anyone know what it is called? Are they available anywhere?

It's the Dritz Bound Buttonhole Maker and I hav't seen them for sale for years. Looking at mine it cost $1.00. They do work. Contact Dritz.

*I have one of these somewhere in my things... my husband's grandmother ordered it for me in the clotilde catalog. I can't remenber what it's called but it now retails at about $15.00

*The item you are looking for is indeed a Dritz Bound Buttonhole maker. Unfortunately, they were discontinued some time ago. Clotilde makes one that is similar but larger for welt pockets and such. I contacted Dritz last year at Quilt Market and they said they had no plans to bring it back. Maybe if they had enough requests, especially with fitted garments coming back, they might re-introduce this great gadget. I bought mine in the late 60's and used to do bound buttonholes on everything because my machine couldn't do "regular" buttonholes. I love the look of bound buttonholes!

I have a couple original Dritz bound buttonhole makers, in the original packaging in outstanding condition.  The complete how-to instructions are on the package.  I will sell you one if you like.  Contact me at [email protected].

Check yard sales.  I found one for $1.00 a few years ago.  The next year I found another one for about the same price and sent it to a friend who didn't have one.  I haven't used mine yet, but this is the year that I will.   Bound buttonholes do look so good.  Most of the items I make are tops and slacks, so I haven't had much need for them, but there are some jackets and vests in the que.  Right now I am making several pairs of slacks.  Has anyone seen a bound buttonhole in a trousers waistband?

Has anyone seen a bound buttonhole in a trousers pattern?  Or is it just not done, because buttonholes in waistbands "shouldn't be seen"?

If a photo of this Dritz accessory helps, open -

To satisfy my curiosity, I sent an e-mail to Dritz to see what if anything might be said currently.  I suspect the reply will be the accessory is long out of stock.  I bought mine years ago.  Circa late 1960's-early '70's?  The site specifies a reply may take 2 weeks or more.  Will let everyone know should I learn anything.

Should you find the Drtiz bound buttonhole tool, it might be w/o an instructions.  The following URL is well done.
