Where is the stitching supposed to fall when you use a flat-fell foot?

The generic flat-fell foot I ordered makes the 6mm fold just fine, but the needle stitches right down the middle of the fold. I thought it would stitch very close to the raw edge.

Can you move your needle position to get it where you want it to stitch?
