fabric/patterns

Balencia | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Hello all – back again as trying out a new project   for my college course – that of sports gear – anyone know best place on internet for sports wear fabric as well as fabrics?  can I just re-arrange design in pattern making book effectively – say a jacket pattern ?  Yours with great respect for sewers who have time and energy to make many garments a year! cause I am finding it difficult to fit in or may be I am just lookiing for excuses or even wasting my time and need to use time more efficiently.

Yours,

thankfully – LG

    Hiya!

I like the sportswear patterns at Kwik Sew  ( http://www.kwiksew.com ) - they are 100% reliable with no fitting or style surprises. They are available in some fabric stores or can be ordered online at their site. Their patterns might be a useful springboard to convert drafted patterns. Not all jacket patterns translate to, Gore-Tex, say.

And for sportswear fabrics I like Seattle Fabrics (http://www.seattlefabrics.com) with their huge selection of Gore-Tex, Polartec, ripstop nylon, waterproof fabrics and practically anything else you can think of. Their staff are expert at finding what you need. I live nearby and love to go there when I need something, but they also take orders online and I think also over the phone.

I don't work at or for either place, but I'm a big fan of both. Good luck with your course - I bet you'll get a huge kick out of it!

    :) Mary

Unhappy to hear that we cannot order from the Kwik Sew site as the local Denver area stores stopped carrying them quite some time ago.  I wonder if they went out of business?  I really like their patterns for serging.  Mary

          Hiya Mary!

No worries - Kwik Sew isn't defunct. I think they're just very low-tech. They have a nice website with good free downloadable patterns as well as a full listing of their current sales offerings. I bet you can email them and ask for the name of your closest supplier.

Their serging and sewing patterns rock! I get them locally at JoAnn Fabrics and at Hancock Fabrics. Maybe that helps? I hope so!

          :) Mary

I've checked at several JoAnnes, Hancocks, and Hobby Lobbys and they don't even have the books for them anymore, let alone the patterns.  The clerks just say "we don't carry them".  Mysterious...I've been using their patterns for decades and prefer their nice quality hardy paper, (easier to trace those nice heavy black lines too).  I think I will email them as I don't like having to pay for shipping and miss out on sales too.  Mary

If you go to the http://www.kwiksew.com site, you can click on "Locate a Store", then "Dealer Listing", then "find retail dealers" for a store who stock Kwik-Sew Patterns in or near your area.

Thanks, but the list is not up to date so I will just give Kwik Sew a call to see what's up.  Mary

That's odd - I wonder what's up? Do let us all know what you learn from Kwik Sew.

I love the thick paper patterns too, and didn't know that they might be endangered! I'd better go stock up!

            :) Mary

I just hope it's not the big stores undermining another great smaller company by not carrying their product!  Mary

good on you - give them a piece of your mind!  I make my own patterns anyway!

Yours Les  - but of course am always interested in looking at good patterns as well from time to time.

It's been several years but I have ordered from KwikSew by phone in the past.  And their website has a store locator.  Maybe you can find a "local" shop through that that you can order from--either in person, by phone, or online.

The store locater was wrong about Hancocks' having their patterns so will have to call Kwik Sew.  Thanks so much for the idea though.  I'm stubborn about shipping fees.  I did find a store about an hour away that has them.  Mary
