cutting mat

I’m looking for a very large cutting mat to use with a rotary cutter, size 31 inches by 60 inches. David Coffin’s book said you can find them off a roll, and then cut to size. Does anyone know where I can find this?

Thx

Enid

I saw something like that at a Sewing and Craft Show here in Orange County, CA., where I live. Don't know where you live or whether or not Sewing shows, conventions, etc., come to your area. Anyway, that's one possible source. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the company but I know they had lots of huge rolls of mat material and could make any size you wanted. Good luck!

*Try Sewing Emporium, Chula Vista, CA. I get a new mat for my cutting table 4' x 8' about every three years. Has a grid printed on-easy for bias, straight of grain, Love it!Vida

*I'm sure I've seen various size mats advertised in threads & other sewing magazines.

*Go to the Sew Fit company----any good search engine will get you to them. In the 1970s this company did all kinds of worksops on sewing and fitting and published books. They have some residual drafting tools still for sale and also big sized cutting mats for sale. I think 8x4 is the biggest. I also recall there something about custom cut mats on their web page.Barb RevereRedwood City, CA [email protected]

*This is where i got mine, too. The Sewing Emporium. I think their prices are the best.I bought a large size and cut it to fit my table. The left-over piece is very handy, too; I throw it on my bed and cut things there, when I don't want to bother with the table.

*I have one important tip for you. Buy the hard kind NOT the pinable kind. The hard kind is so much easier to use and will last longer. The pinnable kind allows the cutting blade to sink in too far and takes more effort to do the job. Also I like only the white boards, not the dark colored ones especially the dark green and gray ones. They are too hard to see the lines. And I becasue I always copy my patterns onto plain white copy-paper in order to keep the original pattern intact the white background under my patterns and copy paper allows me to see through the paper.Katy
