Buttonhole problems on Touch & Sew Singer Model 758

My reliable old Singer machine makes buttonholes with an built-in program or manually in four steps. The buttonholes have never been very saisfactory. Is there any remedy? I’d love to have an attachment like the one from my grandmother’s machine that works on this machine. (Hers was one of the first electrified machines, circa 1920, presently sits idle in my closet.)

maplespring1, I used a Singer 640 for many years. I think the 758 is similar, just newer. The buttonholer you need for your machine is called a Professional Buttonholer by Singer. It will make any kind of buttonhole you want if you have the correct cam. They are very easy to use. Is there some reason why you can't use your grandmother's machine? You could set it up just for buttonholes.
I forgot to add...I assume that the 758 is a slant needle. In that case, you need to be sure to get a slant needle buttonholer. It will say so on the part that attaches to the needlebar.
