Advice on purchasing industrial machi…

Beth_Gonder | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

I’m totally new at this, so bear with me if I screw this up…. I am looking to buy an industrial serger, but don’t really know that much abou them. I used a Rimoldi at a previous job, but know nothing about any other brands, or why one machine might be better than another. I have a Bernina 910 and a Bernette 234 at present. I probably could use advice about industrial straight stitch machines as well. I’ve asked at a couple of places that sell notyhing but home machines, they both seemed to think I should just buy a new home serger, but I am looking for SPEED, I want to go really, really fast!
Thanks!

    Beth,

Juki makes excellent industrial sergers. THey are widely used in garment production. They also make the Baby Lock home sergers; real quality equipment!
Some Juki sergers sew up to 7000 spm, I hope that's fast enough for you?! :)

    Good luck,
    A.J.

*Hear hear for Juki! Almost bought one, but got a Yamato instead. Has a axspeed of 5500spm. IIndustrialend to do just one thing, VERY well, for long periods, are HEAVY and take up a lot of room (must be mounted in a table) & require REGULAR SKILLED care & feeding. OTOH,Used ones are surprisingly afafford able. Unless you're near a garment center, a home ssergeight be the better part of valor. Our mechanic suggested an ululnas a back-up for us- not quite 5500 susumbut not bad!Good Luck,GiGingliano

*Try finding a commercial machine dealer in your area. Otherwise, give Atlanta Thread and Supply Co. a call and request their catalog 800-847-1001. They sell quite a few of the most popular commercial machines and can probably answer your questions. Comment: if you look at the machines closely you'll see that machines from different co's look similar. That's because they are made my the same manufacturer. Buy the less expensive version!
