Advice on Purchasing Computerized Machin

I have been interested in getting a new computerized machine but was put-off by the cost and concerns with the “built-in obsolencence because of which I know that I will have to be very judicious in my selection. I simply cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars for something with a limited shelf life. I’d like to get a computerized machine, in a mid prize range, that will bring me into the 21st century–a few special stitches, maybe a little embroidery but nothing that will require purchasing high cost discs, etc. I welcome all recommendations. I have the Viking SE now. I traded my Designer 1 in on it. I know Viking has other models. The beauty of the D1 (although pricey) is it is upgradable. They can do it at the dealer or you can do an upgrade via the computer download. I have been more than pleased with mine. I'm still learning how to use allthe diferent features of mine. Check to see if you have a dealer in your area. Mine offers free lessons and refresher courses with purchase.

They can be. The SE is the top of the line, but it is incredible. However, they do have other models that are less expensive. You'll have to go in for a "test drive". If you have a Joann Fabric store they should have a Viking dealer there. or go to their website and you could locate a dealer in your area I'm sure. Good luck and have fun!
I have a Brother PC D (mid range) and I just purchased a Viking D1 USB. Although the Viking SE had all of the bells and whistles, I couldn't justify the price. I went with the D1 and got a great deal!
I would also suggest going to a dealer and getting a very nice model that has been a trade in.

I have a computerized Bernina that I've had for seventeen years, it still sews wonderfully. I only had a major problem with it once. It was in the 15th year, one of the boards had to be replaced, $400, other than that I haven't had any problems with it.
