I have the opportunity to attend Carnivale in Venice next year. Obviously, this is an excellent excuse to get creative with a full on rococo gown with all the trimmings.
Does anyone have any advice on the best type of boning to use for the panniers (hoops) to hold the skirt out? I’m based in New Zealand and the only boning we ever seem to see is the Rigeline polyester boning which is quite lightweight. I’m happy to buy off the web but need some advice on the best weight and structure before committing to shipping it to the other side of the world.
Would using two layers of the Rigeline work?

This Canadian website has tons of info: http://farthingales.on.ca/ They're probably too distant and expensive, but you'll get the various product names and they have info on making hoops, bustles, corsets etc. They're actually the supply side for costuming for the Stratford Festival.Hope this helps,
