   I haven't done thread painting, but there are several books about it. I don't remember the names or the authors at the moment, but there are lots of things you can do with it. There's one quilt artist who paints on the fabric and uses the quilting to add texture. I saw several of her works at the AQS museum in Paducah and they were amazing (I think one is called the Blue Men). She also teaches classes in using quilting to add texture. Other artists use the thread painting to add texture and detail to printed fabric, like stitching extra leaves on a vine or adding thread to make a flower more detailed. Still others do free-motion embroidery with amazing ease to create animals (I remember one woman on Simply Quilts doing frogs and maybe fish) that look fabulous.

   Hi!  This is lots of fun!  Once you learn the basics, the sky is the limit.  Lots of fun and very addicting!  You may want to check out Thread Magic by Ellen Anne Eddy, it is a really cool book, she also has classes in Indiana and a website under her name.  Beautiful frogs and other creatures of nature.  Another cool website is http://www.bonniemccaffery.com, she does bobbinwork and I have a kit from her that is a great value for the machine embroidery machine.  Her books are great too.  She loves teaching and really cares about sharing her expertise. 

   You  will find yourself using every type of thread and even yarn on projects once you get into these methods.  I have filled a three large drawers and several boxes with materials for these fun ventures.  Enjoy!!!

   Now I guess I'd better do my extension to my house..I will need another sewing room..the exisiting is bursting at the seams..lol

   Thanks for Bonnie's website, Mary - what a great one!  It will take some time to go through all of her videos, but what inspiration!

   I recently got "Landscape Quilts", by Nancy Zieman, from the library & was really pleased with it & inspired.  The instructions & photos were very good & it's a book worth owning (in case you or Anna-Maree are interested).  The library also had a few books on thread painting, but I haven't found one yet that I would buy for my collection (my book collection is now becoming out of control like my stash)!  Happy sewing!

   Your welcome!  If you sign up for Bonnie's newsletter, she notifies you whenever a new one comes out.  She is so clear and specific, it is easy to follow her instructions.   She has great products too.

   Thanks again, Mary - I'll try that!  From another of your threads, I noted that you have to move every 15 minutes, too (arthritis).  I have the same problem - rigor mortis sets into my knees that soon if I sit too long; therefore, I hate sitting in cramped quarters (like buses) where you can't move your legs enough - then, when you do stand up, you need to pull yourself up on something & straighten yourself out before moving along.  I should be walking, too, but I find that that aggravates my knees more & I'm just hobbling the next day, even after sleeping on the heating pad or putting heat rub on.  Can't win!  Too bad we don't have the wax bath for the knees.  Do you set a timer to remember to get up & move?  When I'm sewing, I lose all track of time & the hours just disappear.

   Yes, I keep a timer nearby and it really helped me to learn to pace myself.  I don't use it as often now as good habits have set in for the most part.  I find I am able to get alot more accomplished by not not overdoing one thing.  I also avoid deadlines like the plague but am trying to set goals and stick to them.

   Thanks, Mary - guess I'd better pick up a new battery for my timer while I'm out today.  That's a great idea!

   Back to the thread painting, I'm returning a library book today - "Thread Painting" by Liz Hubbard (in association with Gutermann.  Her thread paintings are amazing - she literally thread-paints the whole scene (uses lots of thread) - beautiful trees, fields, etc., as well as people, & her instructions are very good.  I think I'll have to buy it, as 3 weeks from the library wasn't enough to glean everything.  See if you can get it from your library & see what you think about it.

   Amazon.ca had 1 used (very good condition) book for $41.24 Cdn - shipped from Calabris in Oregon, so check your Amazon & see what you find there.  Hope this helps.  They didn't have any new ones, but several other thread painting books.
