Sergers vs. Babylock machines

browngirl811's picture

Hope I'm in the right place, but I need to ask a question.  Is a Serger and a Babylock the same thing?  What do sergers and babylocks do exactly?

Short answer is yes and no.  (post #33366, reply #1 of 1)

Short answer is yes and no.  Babylock is a brand name that makes and sells both sewing machines (aka single needle machines) and sergers (aka overlock machines).  Sergers sew a seam, trim the excess seam allowance, and finish off the raw edge all in one step.   They do it faster and neater than a sewing machine.   But they don't replace a sewing machine totally.
